One of the topics in Lesson 4 is about the truth of the Bible. Is the Bible 100% reliable? I'm sure we could all answer this question easily in a group setting with the "correct" answer. My question is why do you believe what you believe?
If you believe the bible is 100% reliable...why? If you have intellectual issues or problems with the reliability of the bible..why? Let's discuss this incredibly important topic!
My dad has written an entire packet of material on why the Bible is 100% accurate, unfaliable truth. It includes specific details and statistics about how many copies and originals were produced and reproduced (compared to Homer's Odyssey and some other classic works), the timeline on when firsthand accounts were recorded. And all of it is very compelling statistically, (if you like that kind of stuff.)
I also have a friend who has been blind-sided (sighted?) by some program on the History channel, questioning whether the Bible could be factual, in light of how it was "put together" in the ancient days. She has other somewhat distracted thoughts on why the Bible might have been skewed by man's influence with regard to which Books of the Bible were included, who was in charge, yada, yada.
Both sides lend themselves more to human reasoning rather than faith in my opinion. However ponder this, if I choose to follow God and put my complete faith in Him, WHY would I ever believe that He's not capable of protecting the truth of His Own Word? How ridiculous it sounds to say, "I totally believe in God, but I think man (created by him) has been more powerful in corrupting God's word, and therefore is distributing a flawed product, which is not totally the truth of God"
I believe in a Holy, Just, and Mighty God that is capable of snuffing out this world with a single breath, if He so chose to do so. I also believe that God is obligated to honor his word, when He says that the Bible is 'penned' by man under the direct influence of the Holy Spirit (2Tim3:16). Whole, complete and totally UN-corrupted by man. If I doubted the Bible's reliability, I would have to declare that my God is not capable of protecting His own word and therefore incomplete as well, right?
