If you just read the Bible and turn that time into "head" knowledge, you are missing out on the transforming power of the God's word. You must peronsalize the study and allow God's word to change your daily behaviors. The only way to start is to START! Upon completion of your study time, reflect on what you just read. Allow the Holy Spirit to identify the area of your life you most need to change. Then, craft an action or "I Will.." statement. Here are some tips on crafting a good I Will action step:

    1) Make it Personal: I Will...
In other words, your study time is for YOU. It's not so you can go hit someone else in the head and say...here is something I read that you really need to do. What will YOU do as a result of the study?

    2) Make it Practical: Don't commit to something that is totally not practical. Keep it small. If you have a full time job with a 2 hour daily commute, and 3 young kids...don't commit to reading the Bible for 3 hours a day. It's just not going to happen.

    3) Make it Possible: Instead of commiting to lose 100 lbs in 1 week, commit to lose 5 lbs in 4 weeks.

    4) Make it Provable: Could someone else observe you doing what you said you would do? Could it be documented? I'm not trying to be legalistic. Having evidence that you did something isn't really the point. God will know. But having the accountability that goes along with a provable/observable action step will help motivate you and keep you honest.

Give these tips a try to deeper your bible study time and deepen the transforming power of the Bible.

I absolutely agree with this statement, because, like these statements, it is healthy to discover more deeper through the Word of God! Memorize the scriptures are challenges, but your heart needs them. I take one step at a time until I am completely understand. If I don't understand, I may write it down and ask and pray for wisdom. It will come to my understanding in God's time.
