I think the major point of this post has biblical warrant because it applies to Christian testimony to all non-Christians, but perhaps it is particularly applicable among atheists in the west (at least) at present because of the substantial cultural influence of postmodernism.

Postmodernists dogmatically assert dogmatism is intolerable, partly because truth certainly cannot be known with certainty. The postmodernist is left with truth for me and truth for you; if your truth in competition with my truth bests mine, chalk one up for your truth.

Here by "your truth" I mean the sort of loving words and actions you note in your post in a distinctly Christian context. In this case, the words and actions must be in accord in particular with the identity of Jesus as Messiah and with what He accomplished on the cross.

Of course the words and actions lovingly conveyed to the atheist may not get that far; only he who has an ear to hear will hear. Most atheists are more interested in their own "truth" that in "true truth." The Christian is not the Holy Spirit.

But God has many devices of grace, and some will hear. I was once an atheist myself.

The story of Joseph is an example for all Christians to follow. Romans 5:3-6 says that suffering >Endurance>Character>Hope , and I believe we all need to understand Leadership from the point and be prepared to endure hardship for our hope. Jesus for the Joy set before him endured the Cross and we need to endure hardship and know that it is for our own good.

You know- I somewhat believe that this one particular fruit of the spirit is sometimes the most difficult to experience. Because if what you said is true, that we let our own flesh sometimes get in the way of recieving joy, then when we worry or sin, or preoccupy ourselves in any way, it can be tough to feel pure joy.

I feel like God has once bestowed upon me the gift of what PURE joy feels like. It was during a service at church and I'm sad to say that it was rather fleeting. But it was a moment of exhileration where I felt so much grace and un-adulterated love for everyone around me, that I just wanted to start hugging people and just praising God for all His works!
At that moment I recognized that this was a feeling I'd never felt so completely before, and as I tried to hold onto the feeling, it rather faded. I still know that I should love my neighbor and Christ...but it doesn't come as fully- saturating my whole body, as it did that one service.

Great post. I completely agree with you on this. Homsexual sin is a sin like any other, and just like there will be previous alcoholics who are in heaven, there will be previous homosexuals in heaven as well.

Alcoholics may fall off the wagon ocassionally and I dont know, maybe homosexuals would too(?) but the desire to move away from sin is the natural fruit of a spirit striving towards Christ of course.

But the idea to ostracize someone for being homosexual is not biblical I dont believe either. I think those scriptures that support having nothing to do with sinners might be reflective of those sinners who we've tried to reach, and whom have publicly denounced following Christ.

Some may feel that the nature of homosexual sin, is one so flagrant that maybe there is not a spirit within the person to want to pursue God. Many of our sins are hidden, which at least shows a natural remorse for it. Homosexual sin is almost worn with such pride sometimes and I think that's what makes them sometimes difficult to reach for Christ. However, there are many of my own sins I wore with pride too. So only God truly knows our hearts.
